Best Movies On Amazon Prime: Knives Out
Director: Rian Johnson
Writers: Rian Johnson
Stars: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas
Knives Out is the redemption movie made by Ryan Johnson in 2019. Features stars like Ana De Armas, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans. It is partly based on the novels of Agatha Christie according to the writer/producer of one of the best movies on Amazon Prime.
The main plot of the movie is such that a popular novelist dies of mysterious circumstances. Our main hero detective Benoit (Daniel Craig) must find the real killer among the deceased family and friends.
One of the best Prime movies 2019, Knives Out has the best idea of writing. So many twists and turns, and unexpected outcomes from the smallest of moments. It delivers the true joy of watching a crime movie. Upon reviewing the best Prime movies; I came to understand that this was one such movie that truly delivered on its promise and made my time watching it well-enjoyed.
The acting, the sound score, cinematography, mise-en-scene, plus all other technical aspects of the movie is top-notch and first-class. There is not a single detail that missed or done wrong with the concept.
My impressions of the movie, as someone who is a fan of the classic whodunit genre, were very positive. You know it is going to be a murder mystery. And be afraid that it might have all the genre cliches. However, the movie shocks you in a very strange way. It’s like you expected Ryan to do better, and you got better than you expected.
Amazon Thrillers: You Were Never Really Here
Director: Lynne Ramsay
Writers: Lynne Ramsay (screenplay by), Jonathan Ames (based on the book by)
Stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov
This movie comes from Writer/Producer Lynne Ramsay and features Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov. It won a few awards including Best Actor in Canne in 2018.
Joe (Joaquin Phoenix) is a brutal, ruthless, traumatize veteran who tracks young girls. When Nina (Ekaterina Samsonova) goes missing, His mission is to uncover this missing case. This time, however, is no normal case.
Your experience watching this movie is incomparable to anything out there today. It is of course the acting on which point I will stop at later. But the whole movie and the way it looks, feels, sounds, are but incredibly artfully-crafted parts of this incredible flick. That sets it way apart from everything else ever made in this genre. Thus, making it one of the best Prime movies.
There are two technical parts of the movie that stand out from the rest. One is the acting; nobody could have played this role even mildly close to what Juaquin Phoenix managed to do.
It portrays the person who is suffering from trauma in such a perfect, spotless, delicately, extraordinarily simple way that lives through the trauma for the duration of the movie.
The second is writing. You Were Never Really Here is more than a psychological thriller but a summary of an excruciatingly exhausted man, barely hanging on, trying to find the reason to stay.
My impression of the movie is worth a thousand words. By the way, leave a comment below if you want me to break it down and explain scene by scene. Surely this movie deserves more than a 250-word review.
Best Sci-fi Movies on Amazon: The Vast Of Night
Director: Andrew Patterson
Writers: Andrew Patterson (teleplay by) (as James Montague), Craig W. Sanger (teleplay by)
Stars: Sierra McCormick, Jake Horowitz, Gail Cronauer
The Vast of Night was filmed by a first-timer named Andrew Patterson, the cast includes Sierra McCormick (Lilith of Supernatural) Jake Horowitz, Gail Cronauer. The central point of the movie is that DJ and SwitchBoard Operator encounter strange frequencies that may change their future forever.
The UFO plot the movie depicts is unseen anywhere before. The Vast of Night keeps it all small and personal. That makes for an incredible plot for a UFO movie with so many superhero movies coming out every year.
The movie is so engaging that it pulls you in like a black hole. The soundtracks, the filming style is all but perfect. To become one of the best Prime movies. They had to accomplish it this way, especially with only a shoestring budget.
How talented the filmmakers were is easily noticeable from the very establishing shots. The acting and their chemistry between the two is truly mesmerizing. I could not talk enough about their writing, on how perfect they were.
Or how sound and the non-diegetics added such a volume of tension and suspense that the movie feels more thriller-ish than some of the best thriller movies out there.
My impressions of the movie were like through the roof just from the first few mins.
Even though the filmmakers are just beginning, they proved that they are as talented as the popular Hollywood names out there. Heck, way better than some of the names. Since Hollywood does not just rely on talent and quality for the movie to go viral.
Amazon Best Prime Movies: To Catch a Thief
fDirector: Alfred Hitchcock
Writers: John Michael Hayes (screenplay), David Dodge (based on the novel by)
Stars: Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Jessie Royce Landis
Regardless of the platform, whether it is the best Prime movies or the best movies to watch on Netflix. To not include a piece of Hitchcock would be impossible, and disrespectful for his geniusness.
The initial release of this movie was 1955 but has been added to various streaming platforms since 2017. As mentioned above, it comes from a director, producer Alfred Hitchcock, from writer Michael John Hayes. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly star in this movie as the main characters.
In the movie, a retired jewel thief (Cary Grant) tries to prove his innocence after he is suspected of returning to his business. In the process, he ends up stealing the heart of the jewel owner. (Grace Kelly).
Although the movie is 65 years old, it feels like it comes from only last year or so. Because everything you see in the movie from the dialogue to its cinematography to the heart-stopping suspense fall nothing short of Amazon best Prime movies.
It feels quick but not rushed. The scenery chosen for mise-en-scene is perfect that it tickles the very depth of your imagination. With every scene a painting mentality, the movie ups its quality with witty and authentic dialogue.
The chemistry between the main cast is undeniably infectious. The debonair behavior of Cary and his charisma carries the whole movie all the way through.
Even so long after, it is still a thrill to watch. A movie that served best as an introduction of the Hitchcock classic. A classic of a kind that does not die out.
Best Prime Movies on Amazon Prime: Stop Making Sense
Director: Jonathan Demme
Writers: Jonathan Demme, Talking Heads
Stars: David Byrne, Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir
Stop Making Sense is the reviving of the Talking Heads concert by Jonothan Demme. Features the full members of the Talking Heads such as David Byrne, Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, and others.
The plot is simply the depiction of one of their legendary concerts in a documentary style. Plus, serves as a good step to tune in to their melody and understand why the big suits.
You get on a particular kind of cinematic experience watching this documentary concert shot at Hollywood Pantages Theatre in 1983. The kind where the energy is through the roof spilling all over, right into your laps, into your bones that make you stand up and dance.
There is no story to discuss with this film as it requires no such thing. It has the best story that is already in the plot of the movie. What makes it outstandingly unique and one of the best Prime movies is its captivating feel and perfectly mixed sounds into the movie.
I can only imagine how popular and famous this concert movie was right after the concert itself. It was one of those movies which was meant to remain in history either as a big success or a colossal fail. If it was not for Demme, it probably would have been the latter.
My impression of the movie is so positive that I now listen to Talking Heads. 😜. It does not happen often when you watch a movie and you can’t get enough of their music. The last time it happened, it was La La Land, and perhaps, with Bohemian Rhapsody, but I already knew of Queen, so it only counts partially.
Best Prime Movies Now: The Handmaiden
Director: Chan-wook Park
Writers: Sarah Waters (inspired by the novel “Fingersmith” by), Seo-kyeong Jeong (screenplay)
Stars: Min-hee Kim, Jung-woo Ha, Jin-woong Cho
This romance drama called “The Handmaiden” comes from a Korean director Park Chang Wook. Written by Sarah Waters and inspired by the novel “Fingersmith” by Seo-Keyoung Jeong The cast consists of Min-hee Kim, Jung-woo Ha, Jin-Woong Cho.
The plot of the movie obviously involves a handmaiden, but she is not just a simple handmaiden. She got engaged in a plot to rid her of inheritance.
Elegantly erotic thriller beautifully filmed has the spiciest theme of betrayal and passion. It is one of the best movies on Amazon Prime that captivates your mind and your soul only with its quality of captions. The story depicted or transferred from the book is of one of a kind.
The formal techniques used in this movie are surely the first class, and what makes one of the best Prime movies. Every single detail is so elaborate with so much attention that it leaves no room for mistakes. The storytelling is unique, a new look, and perceptive. Something that is new and has never been tried in movies before.
It is a movie that could potentially create its own genre, a new genre of elegantly erotic thriller drama that is about pleasure and rapture at the same time.
My impressions watching this movie are very positive. It is like seeing whatever was promised to be shown. I had read the reviews of the movie before viewing it. Even the most expressive and the most articulate review was not, and would not be able to accurately explicate how incredible and one of a kind this movie was.
Best Prime Movies Amazon: Cold War
Director: Pawel Pawlikowski
Writers: Pawel Pawlikowski (story), Pawel Pawlikowski (screenplay)
Stars: Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot, Borys Szyc
Cold War, a 2018 white and black movie written and produced by Pawel Pawlikowski, features polish stars like Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot, Borys Szyc.
In a nutshell, the plot of the movie is just like the one in Romeo and Juliet. With one exception that it is set in the post-World War 2 era during the Cold War of the 1950s.
The movie feels, sounds, looks, and does everything flawlessly. The Oscar-winning producer has done it again, showed the world how masterful, artful filmmaking should be. Honestly, it is so perfect I can’t think of a piece to start with to call it one of the best Prime movies. Because it already is regardless of how I would review it.
The Cold War is the true cri de coeur of romanticism and artistry in times of communism. A bona fide love story that transcends way beyond, “just being a love story”. In a sense, it is structured like Romeo and Juliet but the way it is filmed and the period it is based makes one but feel all the emotions of the movie just like intended especially when acted so damn perfectly.
I won’t spend much time writing about its cinematography or mise-en-scene, for they are spotless without missing a thing. The music or/and the sound not just makes you feel like the characters but just transports you into that time.
It is one of those movies that pull you so deep down and engage you with it, that you won’t notice any mistakes if there are any. For that, it deserves more than one viewing, and any movie that deserves more than one watch makes for the best Prime movies.
Review Best Prime Movies: I Am Not Your Negro
Director: Raoul Peck
Writers: James Baldwin (writings), Raoul Peck (scenario)
Stars:Samuel L. Jackson, James Baldwin, Martin Luther King
Another documentary entry into our piece. But this time, it is no ordinary one as can be seen from the title. I Am Not Your Negro is just THE documentary to watch in light of the things that have been happening in the US recently.
This movie is directed by Raoul Peck, written by James Baldwin, stars include people like Samuel L Jackson, James Baldwin, Martin Luther King. The main point of the movie is obviously based on racial issues in modern America.
In 1979 James Baldwin was writing a book about his close friends among whom were Martin Luther King. However, he was only able to finish 30 pages before his death. This film tries to envision the rest of the book for us.
This movie doesn’t need the analysis of its techniques or things like its cinematography or editing etc. Because no matter, it is a must-watch for all Americans or whoever lives in the land of the free. Even so, it is still a great documentary with a remarkable eye for detail. One that does not shy away from the harsh truth. It is a movie that represents American values to the max.
My impression of one of the best Prime movies is that it was eye-opening and a jaw-dropping revelation into this movement against white supremacy. Whether it still exists or not, is definitely for a debate that will last for ages. But hope still remains.
Amazon Prime Movies: Salesman
Director: Asghar Farhadi
Writers: Asghar Farhadi
Stars: Shahab Hosseini, Taraneh Alidoosti, Babak Karimi
The Salesman comes from an Oscar-winning director and producer Farhadi Asghar. The movie focuses on the aftermath of what happens to one of the main heroes after they move into a new apartment.
The plot of the movie is ambiguously deep and vaguely shallow. It is the perfect balance of drama with mystery and thriller tucked in. It is about an Iranian couple who moves into a new apartment to be close to the play they were performing. Because they are artists. Despite the ill-reputed previous owner, they had to move in because their previous home got damaged.
One afternoon when Raa (Taraneh Alidoosti) is alone, a previous client visits her and leaves her suffering. Now, her husband Emad (Shahab Hosseini) filled with rage and a desire for revenge thinks about nothing but that.
Filmed in a neo-realistic theme, the movie transfers the suffering of a woman after such an incident with subtlety and humane way that it is celebrated everywhere. As one of the best Prime movies, its narrative theme is universal and transcends barriers of culture and race and everything that separates us as humans.
The film gets praise for filmography, for its thematic content, for pretty much everything film-related. Some might argue it won an Oscar because of its political relevance in regards to Trump Policies. But there are probably a dozen other movies that retaliated to him. None but this one got to have an Academy Award for it. This should say enough about the quality of the work done by everything involved in the filmmaking process.
Best of The Amazon Flicks: Paterson
Director: Jim Jarmusch
Writers: Jim Jarmusch, William Carlos Williams
Stars: Adam Driver, Golshifteh Farahani, Nellie
The best Prime movies like Paterson are very hard to come by. Its central point which is the everyday life of a bus driver must be like the hardest pitch a writer has to make to turn it into a movie.
Even when made into a movie it is even harder to bring about an as artful piece of flick as this one.
Paterson is written and produced by Jim Jarmusch, with the cast of Adam Driver as Paterson, Goldshefteh Farahani as his wife Laura.
The movie is so mundane, simple and it is so easy to relate to. It is an ode to everyday life. On the one hand, nothing really happens. He gets ready for work every day, and talks to different people, and comes back home and writes poems. On the other hand, despite its humdrum routine style, it never becomes boring.
Turning this idea into a movie in and of itself is a crazy idea, but to succeed at it brilliantly is probably even crazier. Paterson is a true masterpiece and a definite homage to people with simple lives, and the absolute proof that Jim Jarmusch is one heck of an incredibly talented director. A director that needs but little like a bus driver plot to make one of the best Prime movies.
The proof that he can turn even the simplest of concepts into a beautiful cinematic experience. One that is worth all the praise and applause.
In Summary
Because I knew watching the best Prime movies would take you a long time, just as mentioned in the very first opening sentences of the blog post. I only listed the best and only the best.
As for the promised treasure. You already have it. You have the knowledge of the best Prime movies now. This means you do not have to spend hours upon hours scrolling up and down, left and right depending on what device you are on, to find that one movie which is worth watching.
All you need to do is just read this post. Heck you just have to skim through it to settle on one.
A few other movies that could potentially take the spot of best movies on Amazon Prime are: “Lighthouse”, “Rocketman”, “Fighting with My Family”, “The Big Sick” and “Manchester by the Sea”.
The term, best movies anywhere may seem subjective. The above movies will break all the conventions and subjectiveness of that argument. It gives you a truly enjoyable viewing experience of a single kind that will remain in your memory for quite some time.
