The Irishman Movie Review, let get started with one of the latest masterpieces of Scorsese
The Irishman in a negative sense is Scorsese trying to outdo himself and in a positive sense almost accomplishing it.
The writers of this masterpiece are Steven Zaillian, Charles Brandt. And the star-cast includes people like Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci.
Irishman easily be among the list of the best movies of Scorsese . Which is already saying a lot.
While it is not the very best. You will see all the elements, styles, and the voice of this legendary filmmaker.
The acting, on the other hand, is worth all the praise. Its star cast is full of legends… If you notice, I have been using legendary a lot.
It is because this movie couldn’t otherwise be the Irishman movie review without the presence of this word.
Going back to this legendary acting aspect, which is so good that you won’t see their faces, literally.
Before seeing the movie you know it is going to be good because it has all those legendary people.
However, in recent years all of them have been in some shit movies that this statement became confusing. And you come expecting that this is not true for this time.
The statement ends up being far from true, and in a far better way. I was ready to see the normal Al Pacino crap. him acting the way he usually does or De Niro’s usual acting.
But after some scenes and 10-20 minutes. I was engrossed in the movie so much that I forgot who was playing.
That fact which makes you forget the faces of the actors but bring out the faces of the characters is what I love about cinema. This proves that those old chaps still got it.
The Irishman Trailer
If you add to that the narration and the story that is captivating and gripping, you get what you call a CINEMA. That cinema which Scorsese preaches about all the time.
It is certain that there is going to be the comparison of this movie to the Goodfellas. Albeit they present a similar theme, they are fundamentally different movies and have huge dissimilarities. The only kinship they share is their director.
Many people pick on the length of the movie, which is long. But with a story and masterful editing plus the acting, I keep mentioning in this Irishman Movie Review, you won’t feel it.
At most, it feels like a 2-hour movie. Because once it picks up on its pacing, it doesn’t slow down.
The best part is not that it is fast-paced, it is not actually. It has many scenes when there isn’t a single dialogue. But the characters’ thoughts and feelings are conveyed. But acting is so well that you are in them too.
That is what the cinema should be. It should show you not tell you. Nowadays many movies are focusing on the hype and the CGI and more on the entertaining factor.
Of course, films should be entertaining. But not in a way that doesn’t give actors full responsibility and a chance to achieve that.
Those people earn millions not just because they are on screen. But are able to put on a face of a different person and make you believe them. Why not let them do their job?
This movie and everyone involved understand what true cinema means and they achieve it with utmost brilliance.
Although the script is an adaptation according to real life events, the voice and the originality of Scorsese remains and can be seen everywhere, especially in scenes of sudden bursts of bloody energy.
To Wrap up the Irishman Movie Review
All in all, it was an Oscar-worthy filmmaking that should’ve taken its rightful place in the 2020 Academy Awards ceremony.
The Irishman movie review could go on and on, talking all the aspects, but to put a stop we must, to keep the piece becoming too long.
